Welcome to the Classic Greek!

My name is Kay Nastopoulos, and I am so glad you’re here exploring the site. Growing up, I had the great fortune of observing my mother and grandmothers in the kitchen baking various Greek pastries and traditional dishes. The delectable pastries are what most caught my eye, and I was always delighted when I was allowed to help roll and bake them with my mother’s keen guidance and direction.

With much time and practice, I learned the proper feel of my grandmother’s kourambiedes (wedding cookie) dough, the perfect doneness of koulourakia (butter cookies), and the superb blending of flavors in karidopita (pecan cake). As an adult, I would bake large batches each year at Christmas to distribute to family and friends. Now, using the same recipes passed down through generations of my family, I am excited to expand my reach and make these available to the entire Atlanta area through my home-based bakery. All of the pastries and cookies we offer are classics that you will find in any traditional Greek mom or “YiaYia’s” home, local Greek restaurants, and also in your travels to Greece.

In the early 1990’s, my father and I endeavored to replicate my Yiayia’s (his mother’s) cherished baklava. We considered it a success when we received her approval of the final product after our first try! This is a picture of me and my dad, circa 1994, making baklava in my parents’ kitchen. To this day, we still have a “Baklava Making Day” every December - (my mother even has the back of the picture labeled “Annual Baklava Baking!”) - so that we can share these decadent treats with our friends, family, and clients each year.

Through my annual sharing of pastries over the holidays, I realized how valued good quality pastries can be and how unique they are to the general public.

I hope you enjoy eating them and sharing them as much as I enjoy baking and serving them!
